Franciscan reports infant left in Hammond Baby Box

India’s Modi calls for global approach to tackle crypto; FTSE 100 at two-year high – as it happened

Franciscan Hammond had a little excitement earlier this month when an infant was left in its Baby Box.

The baby girl, left in the box at 5454 Hohman Ave., is the second one for their location, Franciscan Alliance spokesman Robert Blaskiewicz said. The first was left in September 2019, less than a month after the box had been installed, he said.

“The team at Franciscan Health Hammond is gratified that the Safe Haven Baby Box provided a secure location for a mother in crisis to leave her infant,” he said.

Monica Kelsey, founder and CEO of Safe Haven Baby Boxes, confirmed a baby girl was surrendered at Franciscan Health Hammond earlier this month. She also highlighted that two other babies were surrendered in Carmel, bringing the total number of infants surrendered in Indiana to three this month, Blaskiewicz said.

Blaskiewicz said Franciscan’s Safe Haven Baby Box will remain available at the Hohman Avenue location while the hospital undergoes construction during its transition, should anyone who’s given birth need it.
