Royal biographer Ingrid Seward said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “must have known it would look petulant and rude”. The couple did not travel from California to the UK for the event at Westminster Abbey earlier this week amid Harry’s legal battle over police protection for his family in Britain.

Ms Seward said: “The only explanation is that neither one of them wanted to go.

“There would have been no security problems. The whole Abbey was bristling with secret service men to guard the biggest gathering of royalty, politicians and top army brass since the London wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

“Harry must have known it would look petulant and rude. And if he did not Meghan would have.

“If it was a pointed snub to the whole Royal Family and it went sour.

“Of course, the Queen would have been told well in advance. Harry keeps in constant touch with his grandmother for many reasons. I am sure he spoke to his father too. But nothing excuses his absence even if Meghan and the children stayed away.”

Farage savages ‘petulant’ Harry over UK return

Nigel Farage has savaged Prince Harry for not returning to Britain for Prince Philip’s memorial service.

The former Brexit Party MEP told Sky News Australia: “If he can’t come back to support his grandmother, if he can’t come back to pay tribute to his grandfather who was a truly remarkable man, who gave great service in wartime and peacetime to our country and to our friends in the Commonwealth, then I hope he never ever comes back again.

“I don’t want to see him back in this country ever again.

“That level of disrespect, that level of petulance, is beyond belief.”

Should the public decide if royals get to keep their titles?

Britons should be able to decide if royals can keep their titles, according to a royal expert.

There have been calls from York residents and MPs to remove Prince Andrew’s title and connection as the Duke of York and similar appeals have been made in Sussex about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle about their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.

Royal expert Phil Dampier recently tweeted: “If the Duke of York is going to have his title stripped from him by the people of York presumably the people of #Sussex should also have a say?”

Meghan ‘wrangling’ Americans by ‘trading off’ Duchess title

Meghan Markle has been warned by a US commentator that Americans can “spot opportunists” after her departure from the Royal Family.

Meghan received criticism when she took it upon herself to lobby Republican politicians to include paid parental leave and a climate policy by the US Government.

The Duchess of Sussex called senators Shelley Moore Capito and Susan Collins on a withheld number and told them who she was when they answered.

US commentator Lee Cohen has claimed it “wrangles” Americans that Meghan appears to be “trading off” her Duchess title.

Kate finds royal tours a ‘wrench’

Royal author Katie Nicholl told Closer magazine: “I remember being with her when we were on a tour together in Bhutan [in 2016, when Princess Charlotte was just 11 months old] and we had a moment to talk about how difficult it was to leave little children behind.

“Despite being the Duchess of Cambridge and being able to afford around-the-clock nannies and so on, she had her mum looking after Prince George and Princess Charlotte, which struck me as just really normal.

“I could see how much comfort and confidence that gave her in getting on with her job, which she does brilliantly, but I think it is always such a wrench for her to leave her children behind.”

Sophie is ‘mentor’ for Kate

The Countess of Wessex’s value to the Royal Family has been explained by an expert, who claimed that she is a “mentor” for Kate.

Royal historian Marlene Koenig said: “You don’t hear a bad word about Sophie. Her organisations and charities are very fond of her.

“She gives her all when she’s involved with them, and I think that says a lot about what a royal does and the value of a royal. You are getting your money’s worth with Sophie.

“I also think she is certainly someone that the Duchess of Cambridge can see, as someone who is a generation older, and how she goes about her royal duties – a mentor. Again, coming from a similar background.”

Harry tipped to make ‘potentially disfiguring’ revelations about royals in memoir

Prince Harry may include more revelations “potentially disfiguring to the image of the royals” in his upcoming memoir, according to a commentator.

Reputation management expert Eric Schiffer said: “The book, I am sure, will be hobbling in some ways to the monarchy.

“And create a further perception of maiming by Harry.”

William ‘recognises need to change’ from Queen’s royal rule

Prince William recognises that there is a “need to change” from the Queen’s “never complain, never explain” royal rule, according to a marketing expert.

Pauline Maclaran, Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research at Royal Holloway, said: “I think he recognises that there is a need to change because it’s such a public relations game these days. So much more so than when the Queen took over.

“Now it is all down to how you brand yourself, what’s picked up by the media and what isn’t, and you need to be very aware of it.

“Also the public does expect to see the sort of human touch behind the facade. I think we demand more and more the explanation.

“But William does seem willing to give more of himself in that respect and I think it’s the right move.”
